Man Arrested for Newark Central Ward Shooting

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest of Omar Clowers, 23, of Newark, for a Central Ward shooting yesterday.

According to Director Ambrose, at approximately 3:40 p.m., police responded to University Hospital on a call of a 20-year old male victim arriving at the hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

The victim was treated and is in stable condition Director Ambrose said.

Based on their investigation, detectives from the Police Division’s Major Crimes Shooting Response Team developed evidence that Clowers a suspect in this shooting.

Police said he was arrested in the 300-block of West Market Street and found in possession of a .380 caliber handgun.

Clowers is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
