POLICE INVESTIGATE SHOOTING OF ELIZABETH MAN

Elizabeth

A 24-year old city man was shot and wounded Thursday afternoon, leaving the suspects on the loose, police said this morning.

Police responded to the Hess gas station on Spring Street at 5:25 p.m., after the report of a shooting, Lt. Daniel Saulnier said.

At the location, authorities found a vehicle occupied by 4 passengers with several windows  shot out.

The 24-year old male from Elizabeth was rushed to University Hospital in Newark with a shoulder wound. The man underwent surgery and was listed in guarded condition.

None of the other occupants were injured, Saulnier said.

The female driver told police that the shooting occurred while they came to a stop at the intersection of Jacques Street and Lafayette Street, said the lieutenant.

The driver claimed that two men approached the vehicle, one pulled a gun out and began shooting into the car, prompting the driver to drive off to the Hess station in an effort to call police.

The gunman was described as a Hispanic male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt. The other suspect was described as a black male with dreadlocks.

Police asked that anyone with information that could help police call the Elizabeth Police Department at (908) 558-2050.

No arrests have been made as of this morning.
