Firefighter Rescued from Burning Newark South Ward House

An early morning fire that destroyed a house in Newark's South Ward had a firefighter rescued from the second-floor window.

Heavy fire ripped through the roof of a house located at 394 Clinton Place had firefighters on the scene at around 3 a.m.

Crews arriving at the scene noticed thick smoke and flames coming from the roof of the two and a half story house.

Evacuation alarms were sounded when a firefighter was seen requesting assistance from a second-floor window.

Images of the fire scene showed crews using ladders to remove the firefighter from the house safely.

A thorough search of the house had no trapped or injured occupants found.

The fire was placed under control in about an hour.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
