A man that reportedly lied about being shot in Newark was placed under arrest after police determined he lied and actually shot himself.
According to authorities, police tool Abdul Q. Livingston, 52, of Newark, into custody for shooting himself on Friday.
Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said, at approximately 9:45 p.m., police responded to University Hospital on a call of a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
Livingston originally stated to police that he was shot on 7th Avenue near 6th Street Director Ambrose said.
Upon further investigation, detectives determined that Livingston accidentally shot himself at North 3rd and Hamilton Street.
He was immediately arrested without incident and is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
This is merely an accusation.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
