Off-Duty Harrison Cop Exchange Gunfire with Man in Paterson

Authorities in Passaic County are investigating a late night shooting that had a Harrison Police Officer exchange a serious gunshots with a man in Paterson.

The exact details regarding this incident is still pending but according to initial reports, at around 10:30 p.m., gunfire rang out in the 90's block of Madison Street from two unidentified male suspects who began to shoot at another person at that location.

Reports said, after hearing the shots and observing the men leave the scene, the off-duty Harrison officer attempted to investigate, then intervene after coming in visual contact with the suspects.

When the officer tried to have the man stop, one of the suspects pulled a gun and began to shoot at the cop, firing almost a dozen rounds at the officer's vehicle.

The officer returned fire, striking one of the men in the leg, causing non-life threatening injuries reports said.

Paterson Police arrived to the scene where they searched the area for the second suspect but it is not immediately known if that suspect was ever located.

The Harrison officer did not suffer any physical injuries.

The shooting incident is under investigation.
