Newark Police arrested Thomas Damico, 23, of Elizabeth, for a Self-Inflicted Shooting on Friday afternoon.
According to authorities, at approximately 1 p.m., officers responded to Newark Beth Israel Hospital on a call of a gun shot victim.
Police said Damico was at the hospital being treated for a gun shot wound to his right hand.
He stated that he had shot himself police said.
Detectives conducting the investigation recovered the gun and Damico was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
It is not clear if the shooting happened in Newark or Elizabeth.
These are accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
