Suspect Sought in Newark West Ward Shooting

Police in Newark is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for a shooting that happened in the city's West Ward.

Police said on August 3, 2016, at around 10 a.m., a male suspect who was driving a Mercedes Benz shot a 25-year-old Newark resident in the 600 block of 15th Avenue before fleeing the scene.

The victim was treated at Rutgers University Medical center where he remains in stable condition authorities said.

Detectives are looking to question the occupants of a Honda Fit that was seen near the shooting scene.

While police are actively searching for the suspect, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose said.

This investigation is active and ongoing.
