Pregnant Woman Injured in Newark Shooting

Police are investigating a shooting that happened late last night in the city's North Ward that sent a pregnant woman to the hospital.

The shooting happened at around 7:30 p.m. in the 30's block of 3rd Street when two male suspects reportedly arrived to that location and began firing about a dozen shots in the area before fleeing the scene.

According to reports at the scene, a woman who was reportedly 8-months pregnant was attempting to flee from the barrage of bullets, fell to the ground on her stomach and went into labor but was not struck by gunfire.

EMS transported the woman to the hospital where she was expected to be ok.

The suspect wanted for the shooting is reported to be a black male with dreads who was last observed fleeing the area in a light colored four door vehicle. It is not immediately known who the suspects were shooting at.

In a separate overnight shooting, gunfire erupted in the 100 block of West Kinney Street shortly before midnight rushing Newark Police to the scene where they located a male victim struck by apparent gunfire.

EMS transported the victim to to University Hospital where he suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and his right buttocks but was expected to make a full recovery.

There ere no arrests reported in either shooting.
