Police are investigating a shooting that occurred just after 2:30 PM on the 200 block of 1st Street in Newark that left one person shot and in serious condition.
The shooting happened right outside of an elementary school where students scrambled for cover as parents and school officials rushed out to shield the kids from the gunfire. School officials locked down the building until police arrived.
Police rushed to the area, setting up a crime scene, collecting evidence, and searched for the suspect. The identity of of victim shot has not been released at this time.
None of the children were injured during the incident.
