Newark Man Accused of South Ward Shooting Arrested

City officials announced the arrest of a 29-year-old Newark man in connection with last week's shooting in the South Ward section of the city.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, Samaad Kelly was arrested this morning at his workplace.

Police were on the hunt for Kelly since Friday when he allegedly shot a man in the area of Avon Avenue and Seymour Avenue.

Although no details were provided on the extent of the victim's injuries, officials added that the victim survived his injuries.

Kelly has been charged with aggravated assault and weapons offenses. He is being held at the Essex County Jail on $150,000 bail.

The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.
