Woman Struck by Bullet in Newark's South Ward

Police in Newark closed off streets in the city's South Ward as they investigated the motive for a shooting that sent a female gunshot victim to the hospital on Friday night.

According to preliminary reports, multiple rounds of gunfire blasted off in the vicinity of 91 Tillinghast Street at around 10:30 p.m. where officers arrived at the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred.

Units canvassing the scene found a bleeding, conscious and an alert female victim suffering a gunshot wound at that location according to reports.

EMS rushed the victim to University Hospital in Newark where her injuries were not immediately reported as life-threatening.

Police believe that a black or dark-colored Jeep occupied by several black males arrived in the area and began to aimlessly fire guns before speeding away according to reports.

There were no other injuries or arrests reported.
