EMS Rushed a female victim to the hospital after gunfire rang out in a Newark South Ward community striking the woman.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired that erupted in the 100 block of Goodwin Avenue around midnight where they found the woman suffering a gunshot injury to the leg.
The woman is reported to be around the age of 25 and expected to survive her injury according to preliminary reports.
Officers from the city's Major Crimes Division are investigating a motive for the shooting.
There were no arrests immediately reported.
