Detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office are investigating a shooting incident that left a **[female victim dead about a half block away from Technology High School](https://www.rlsmedia.com/article/woman-shot-dead-newarks-north-ward)** in Newark's North Ward.
According to police, at approximately 3:05 a.m., gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 21 Kearney Street in the city’s North Ward.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive woman suffering gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders immediately provided CPR in an attempt to revive the victim. The woman was then transported to University Hospital, where she lost her fight to live and was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Police say they are looking for a possible female suspect who sped away from the scene in a dark-colored 4-door vehicle immediately after shooting.
The motive for the incident remains under investigation.
