A woman suffered severe injuries after crashing her car on a highway in Somerset County Monday morning.
The collision happened around midnight in the southbound lanes of I-287 near milepost 18.6 Bridgewater.
Emergency responders arrived and found a heavily damaged vehicle crashed into a tree off the highway with a woman trapped inside.
It took firefighters and rescue crews about two hours to extricate the victim from the wrecked car.
She was then airlifted to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center for treatment and listed in serious condition.
NJ State Police closed the 78 eastbound ramp to I-287 for the investigation.
No other injuries were reported.
