Newark

Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a woman seriously injured early Sunday morning, marking -about- the fifth shooting incident during a violent weekend in the city.

According to preliminary information, officials at University Hospital contacted police at approximately 1:55 a.m. after a woman arrived at the emergency room suffering from gunshot wounds.

During an interview with investigators, the victim directed officers to the 300 block of Bergen Street near 15th Avenue in the city’s Central Ward.

Responding units canvassed the area and located evidence of the shooting, including multiple shell casings. Police believe this is the location where the woman was struck.

The incident adds to a string of shootings that have occurred across Newark over the weekend, all of which remain under active investigation.

As of Sunday, no arrests have been made in connection to any of the incidents, and authorities have not released a motive in this latest attack.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to identify those responsible.
