Authorities in Newark are investigating a shooting that left a woman injured in the city’s South Ward.
According to preliminary reports, gunfire erupted shortly before 9:45 a.m. in the 100 block of Shephard Avenue, prompting police to respond to the area.
Upon arrival, officers located an unidentified woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.
The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment. Her injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, according to initial reports.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation.
