EMS rushed a female to University Hospital in Newark after gunfire rang out in a neighborhood in Irvington Township overnight.
Reports of shots fire sent police to the 100 block of Crescent Lane at approximately 1 a.m. where officers arrived and found the woman suffering a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Police searched the area for evidence to support a motive for the shooting and possible suspects.
After police wrapped their investigation that lasted about an hour, police were called back to the area after there were additional reports of shots fired that rang out at approximately 3:30 a.m.
There were no additional injuries reported during their search of the housing complex.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
