Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind a shooting that injured a woman in Newark early Wednesday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, police were called to the 300 block of Broadway to investigate reports of an injured person.
Units that arrived at the scene found a woman suffering a gunshot wound in her chest at that location.
Police say the woman reported that she suffered her injury while in the vicinity of South Orange Avenue and South 8th Street, where officer canvassed the area and found a shell casing according to police.
EMS transported the victim to University Hospital, where she is in stable condition.
The vehicle that reportedly transported the woman away from the scene struck and damaged a parked car.
The investigation into the shooting remains active and ongoing.
