Woman Charged with Wayne Jewelers Robbery; 2nd Suspect Caught Attempting to Board Flight at Newark Airport

A man and woman are facing multiple charges after holding a Wayne Jewelers at gunpoint Tuesday.

According to authorities, police responded to Massola Jewelers on Preakness Avenue at approximately 11:15 a.m. for a report of a holdup.

Officials say Emily K. Lopazanski, 34, Marc Niedle, 30, entered the business while pointing a shotgun at the owner and his son. At some point, a struggle ensued between the suspects and the business owners.

According to authorities, Lopazanski subsequently sprayed the owner and son in the face with a can of Mace, while Niedle fled. Police say that when officers arrived they found Lopazanski, the owner and his son fighting on the sidewalk.

The owner and his son were treated by Wayne Memorial Volunteer First Aid Squad, after being exposed to Mace.

Police arrested Lopazanski and seized several zip-ties in her sweatshirt pocket.

Niedle was arrested at Terminal C in Newark Airport as he waited to board a flight to Florida. Both have been charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, robbery with injuries, and weapons possession. In addition, Niedle was charged with conspiracy.

The incident remains under investigation.
