Woman Accused of Setting Boyfriend's Linden Apartment on Fire in Custody

Linden New Jersey

Police arrested a woman accused of setting boyfriend's Linden apartment on fire this morning.

At approximately 4:24 a.m. today, police responded to a fire at an apartment complex at 612 Ziegler Avenue, Captain James Sarnicki said.    Officers spoke to a 32-year-old man, resident of one of the apartments, who told them that he had a dispute with his girlfriend before leaving the apartment.

Minutes later, the man observed smoke coming out of the apartment. The man was transported to Overlook Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment by a Union County ambulance after attempting to put out a small fire on his couch and stove, said Sarnicki.   Two Linden officers on the scene entered the apartment in search of occupants. Both officers were transported to Trinitas Hospital for smoke inhalation treatment.

The resident's girlfriend was taken into custody by detectives and charges are pending against her.   The incident is still under investigation by the police and fire departments.

The Union County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit is assisting with the investigation.
