Westwood Crossing Guard Flown to Hospital After Being Struck by Car

A crossing guard was flown to the hospital after he was struck by a car Wednesday morning.

Cyril Kearney, a full-time crossing guard, was crossing a pedestrian shortly after 8 a.m. outside Berkeley Elementary School, when he was struck by a green Subaru.

Kearney, who was thrown up and over the vehicle, was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center North and then flown to the hospital's trauma center in Hackensack.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Westwood police and the Bergen County prosecutor's fatal accident investigation unit are investigating.

Superintendent Raymond A. González announce that the school is providing counselors to anyone who may have witnessed the accident.
