Police taped off a portion of a Newark West Ward block as authorities launched an investigation into a shooting that occurred on Sunday evening.
According to Essex County authorities, there were no fatalities immediately reported after gunfire rang out on Columbia Avenue before 9:30 p.m.
One person was transported to University Hospital in serious but stable condition as a result of the incident according to reports.
Thie shooting is the second instance of gunfire that struck victims in the vicinity within a 24-hour period.
On Monday, a gunman sprayed the 200 block of Alexander Street with bullets that struck a male at approximately 1:30 p.m. according to authorities.
The victim was transported to University Hospital where doctors treated him for his injuries.
Authorities say the Alexander Street shooting resulted in about a half-dozen vehicles struck by bullets and officers closing off several blocks in the area for hours due to the investigation.
The shooters remain at-large.
