A shooting that had a man injured near a supermarket in Newark's South Ward has residents seeking answers on whether the officers' arrest of the suspect is a case of police brutality.
According to police, at approximately 5:30 p.m., Detectives from the Special Investigation Division were patrolling near Dewey Street and Lyons Avenue when they heard gunfire coming from the area of Lyons Avenue and Hobson Street.
Authorities said as they approached the intersection, officers observed a male later identified as Undra A. Crosby running away from the scene.
After a brief foot pursuit, the detectives apprehended Crosby without further incident. Crosby was also in possession of a handgun when arrested.
The victim, a 30-year-old Newark man, reported that he was shot near the intersection of Lyons Avenue and Hobson Street while arguing with a person he is familiar with from the neighborhood.
As the argument escalated, the suspect, identified as Crosby, pulled a gun and shot him before fleeing.

Detectives investigating the robbery developed sufficient evidence to identify Crosby as a suspect in this incident.
Police charged Crosby with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
During the arrest, the video showed officers engaged in an apparent struggle with the suspect, who appeared to resist the officers, when one of the officers appears to strike the suspect with his fist in an attempt to place handcuffs on the man.
Immediately after the arrest, officials from Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when a man arrived at the emergency room stating that he suffered his gunshot injury in the area of Lyons Avenue and Hobson Street.
These are accusations lodged against Mr. Undra Crosby. He is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
