Verbal Confrontation Ends in Gunfire, Arrest in Newark's South Ward

A verbal confrontation that escalated into a man firing shots at a person in Newark's South Ward now has the suspect in custody.

Authorities announced the arrest of **Mr. Angel Matos, 60, of Newark,** for an aggravated assault and weapon possession yesterday (Saturday).

According to police at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers responded to the 300-block of Hawthorne Avenue to a call of shots fired.

Upon their arrival, police said a male suspect discharged a weapon following a quarrel with a known male.

There were no injuries due to this incident authorities said.

Detectives developed sufficient evidence to identify **Mr. Angel Matos** as a suspect and placed him under arrest then charged him with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.

These charges are merely accusations lodged aginst Mr. Matos.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
