Vehicles Struck by Gunfire in Early Morning Newark Shooting

An investigation is underway into a shooting that broke out overnight that damaged several cars in a Newark neighborhood.

Reports of shots fired sent police to the 60's block of Hansford Avenue shortly before 2:30 a.m. sending police to the scene where officers immediately located evidence of a shooting.

Arriving units found an unoccupied vehicle had crashed into at least three parked vehicles at that location with two of the vehicles struck by gunfire.

Officers canvassing the scene did not locate any victims during their search according to reports.

It is not immediately clear if there were any victims that walked into area hospitals.

Police are investigating the motive behind the shooting.

In an early Monday morning shooting that happened in the city's South Ward, residents were awakened by multiple rounds of gunfire that rang out in the 100 block of Mapes Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. sending police to the scene where they recovered several shell casings according to reports.

Gunfire also struck a window of a house occupied by residents but no one was injured.

The South Ward shooting is under investigation.
