VALENTINES DAY SHOOTING NETS ONE SUSPECT IN ELIZABETH

A 39-year-old Elizabeth man was arrested in connection to the Friday night shooting  police said this afternoon. 

Police patrolling the area of North Broad Street and North Avenue just after 7:30 p.m. on Friday heard shots fired, then noticed 39-year-old Michael Lawson of Elizabeth running with a black handgun, Elizabeth Police Lt. Daniel Saulnier said.

A 36-year-old city man, was found with a bullet wound in his shoulder at the 500 block of North Broad Street, he added.

The victim was transported to University Hospital where he was treated and released, the lieutenant added. 

Lawson was being held on $300,000 bail in the Union County Jail, charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and obstruction, Saulnier said.
