Officials at the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office have confirmed a pedestrian strike that left an adult female dead on a street in Belleville on Monday night.
According to a brief statement released by county officials, the unidentified woman was struck by a car near the intersection of Mill Street and Washington Avenue just before 7 p.m.
Police and EMS rushed to the scene and found the severely injured woman lying on the ground after the vehicle hit her at that location.
According to Essex County officials, the woman was pronounced dead a short time later.
The cause of the incident is under investigation at this time. Officials say the woman’s name will not be released until her family is properly notified.
UPDATE: The victim, has been identified as Nora Hernandez, 56 of Newark, Officials say she was transported to Clara Mass Medical Center and pronounced dead at 7:20 pm.
