Update: Woman Dies After Car Plunges into Nutley River

Nutley

Authorities have released the identity of the 79-year-old woman killed after her vehicle plunged into the Third River in Nutley.

According to police, officers responded to the 200 block of Harrison Street last Thursday afternoon for a report of a car crash.

Police said Maureen Cordaro, of Nutley, was pulling out of the CVS Pharmacy drive-through last when she apparently suffered a medical emergency, which authorities believe caused her to accelerate, strike a parked car and crash through a fence behind the pharmacy.

According to authorities, Cordaro's Nissan and the unoccupied parked vehicle fell approximately 12 feet into Third River.

Nutley emergency responders pulled Cordaro from the river and transported her to St. Joseph's Medical Center, where she died Saturday.

The cause of death is not immediately known.
