UPDATE: Two Newark Firefighters Injured Extinguishing 2-Alarm Leslie Street Fire 

 

 

Newark Fire Officials are reporting that two Newark Firefighters suffered 2nd degree burns while extinguishing a 2-alarm fire at 29 Leslie Street today.

 

Police said at approximately 11:42 p.m. last night firefighters responded to a fire at the vacant, 2 1/2 story wood frame residence.

 

A second alarm was immediately sounded, resulting the response of some 80 firefighters in total.

 

Two firefighters experienced burns—one to arms, neck and face and one to arms and neck—and both were transported to University Hospital for treatment. They have each been released.

 

No other injuries have been reported police said. 

 

One side of the building collapsed before the fire was considered under control at 12:46 a.m. 

 

The cause and origin of this fire is under investigation by the Newark Fire Division’s Arson Unit.
