Two residents were hospitalized and a home was left severely damaged after a fire broke out early Tuesday morning in Bloomfield, according to information released by Mayor Jenny Mundell.

Officials said the fire ignited around 12:47 a.m. on April 22 at a residence located at 102 Woodland Road. Crews from the Bloomfield Fire Department arrived on scene within minutes, joined by mutual aid from Nutley and Belleville.
Firefighters discovered flames originating from the back deck, which had spread into the home by the time they arrived.
Emergency responders quickly went to work, using multiple hose lines to bring the fire under control by approximately 1:45 a.m.
Despite their efforts, the single-family home sustained extensive damage, displacing the residents.
According to the mayor’s office, two residents suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and are currently being treated at Clara Maass Medical Center.
One firefighter also sustained injuries during the operation and was transported for medical evaluation.
While Bloomfield firefighters battled the blaze, departments from East Orange, Montclair, and Clifton provided coverage for other emergencies in the area.
Mayor Mundell expressed gratitude to the first responders, saying, “I’d like to thank the Bloomfield Fire Department for their swift and courageous response during this dangerous incident. My heart goes out to the family affected by the fire, especially those who were injured.”
The mayor also noted that Bloomfield’s Department of Human Services is stepping in to assist the displaced family.
