Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating three unrelated homicides.
Authorities said, two of the homicides occurred overnight while the third involved a shooting that happened on July 1st with the victim dying yesterday.
According to authorities, on July 1st, Anthony S. Gettis, 25, of Newark was shot multiple times at approximately 1:27 a.m. on North 7th Street.
Gettis was rushed to University Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital yesterday at 12:47 a.m. authorities said.
Last night at approximately 11:41 p.m. Myriam Martinez, 52, of Newark was fatally shot on Clinton Place.
Authorities said she was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 12:37 a.m.
Authorities said at approximately 11:42 p.m. yesterday, Dondre Williams, 24, of Hillside was shot in the 200 block of Keer Avenue also in Newark.
Authorities said Williams was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m.
All three homicides are actively being investigated.
At this time, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified authorities said.
