UPDATE: Three Injured After Armed Suspects Fire Nearly 40 Rounds in Newark's North Ward Neighborhood

Police are reporting a shots fired incident that that injured three victims in Newark's North Ward Wednesday night.

According to police, shooters arrived in the teens block of Elwood Avenue around 9:35 p.m. then began to fire multiple rounds at several males in the area repeatedly.

Police said when officers arrived at the scene, they found dozens of shell casings on the block and near a city park.

Two victims were found at the scene suffering bullet wounds and a third individual entered Clara Maass Hospital struck by gunfire.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has not reported a homicide investigation at this time.
