UPDATE: Teenaged Boy Severely Injured by Hit-and-Run Vehicle in Linden

Police in Linden are continuing to investigate a pedestrian strike that left a teenaged buy severely injured in linden overnight.

According to a statement released by Linden Police officials, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the area of East St. George Avenue and Carnegie Street on reports of a severe motor vehicle crash.

Police officials say investigators believe that the vehicle was traveling eastbound on East St. George Avenue when it struck a male pedestrian as he attempted to cross the street.

The victim, identified as a seventeen-year-old boy from Linden, was treated on scene by Linden Fire Department personnel and paramedics from Trinitas Regional Medical Center.

Police say the boy was then transported to Newark University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

The vehicle, described as a white Nissan Altima with tinted windows, fled the scene. Police later found the abandoned car on a local street police said.

Police closed St. George Avenue between Lincoln Street and West Baltimore Avenues until approximately 1:00 a.m. for the investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by the Linden Police Department Traffic Bureau, and anyone with information urged to contact Inv. John Halkias at (908) 474-8505.
