UPDATE: Suspect Sought for Shooting 17-Year Old Girl in Downtown Newark

Police in Newark seeks the public’s help identifying a suspect wanted for a shooting that occurred on Friday, February 8th.

In a statement released by the Newark Police Departement, officials say shortly after 3:20 p.m., police responded to the 800-block of Broad Street on a call of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old girl bleeding after suffering a gunshot wound to the leg at that location.

EMS rushed the teen to University Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries police said.

Detectives investigating this incident have obtained the below photos of a male suspect in this incident.

Police say the male wore a red jacket with multi-colored sleeves, a red baseball cap with a multi-colored front, red pants, black Air Jordan 3 Retro sneakers with red shoelaces.

According to police, the suspect carried a light colored bag and was observed removing a handgun from the bag then firing a single shot that struck the 17-year old victim.

Police say the suspect walked away heading northbound on Broad Street and then westbound on Market Street.

While police are actively searching for this suspect, we seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating him and removing him from the streets.

This investigation is active and ongoing according to police.
