UPDATE: Suspect Arrested for Shooting at Man at Newark Chicken Shack

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Malcolm Jones-Carter, 27, of East Orange, and Mr. Sean K. Smith, 34, of Newark, for separate incidents of weapon possession.

According to police, on Thursday, July 21, 2022, Police responded to Jersey Fried Chicken, at 289 Elizabeth Avenue, on a call of shots fired.  Chicken shack

Police said a male customer, who entered the store to pick up his order, was shot at after observing another male near his vehicle and running outside.  

The victim and suspect both fled the scene in separate vehicles before police arrived. Responding officers recovered six spent shell casings at the scene.  

No injuries have been reported.

Newark Police officials said Detectives investigating this incident identified Sean K. Smith as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Shooting

Smith was arrested today. He faces charges of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possessing a firearm for an illegal purpose.

 

According to police, on Monday, July 11, 2022, Police responded to the 400 block of Orange Street on a ShotSpotter detection.  

Police recovered one spent shell casing at the location. No injuries have been reported.

Detectives investigating this incident identified Malcolm Jones-Carter as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Shooting

He was arrested today. Jones-Carter is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, and certain persons prohibited from weapon possession.

These charges are merely accusations.  

Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
