A ShotSpotter device was credited for alerting police of nearly a dozen shots in Newark’s Central Ward Sunday evening.
When police arrived at the scene, officers found several shell casing on the Springfield Avenue side of Home Depot around 5:15 p.m.
A further search revealed a male victim lying on the ground near 399 Springfield Avenue suffering multiple gunshot wounds.
EMS administered CPR on the unidentified victim who is now in critical condition. Officials say a black male suspect wore a hoodie when he approached and fired at the victim.
Police taped off the area for the investigation. The Essex County Prosecutors Office has been notified of the shooting.
No other injuries were reported.
