Police are investigating a shooting near Lincoln High School that left one person injured Thursday afternoon and prompted a brief lockdown at the school.
According to preliminary information, reports of gunfire were received shortly after 2 p.m. September 25 in the area of Crescent Avenue, Brinkerhoff Street and Monticello Avenue.
Initial reports indicated officers located a firearm and shell casings in the area of 18 Brinkerhoff Avenue. One person was taken into custody as police continued investigating.
Authorities later confirmed that a shooting victim was located near 60 Crescent Avenue, the location of Lincoln High School. Preliminary information indicated the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the side or back.
Jersey City Mayor James Solomon said the victim was alert and conscious and receiving medical treatment. He said Lincoln High School was briefly placed on lockdown as a precaution before officials determined there was no ongoing threat to the school.
Solomon said police detained one person and recovered three handguns during the investigation.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting and the identity and age of the victim have not been officially released. The investigation remains active.
