UPDATE: Police Report Critical Injuries for Woman Shot Multiple Times in Elizabeth

Authorities in Elizabeth are reporting critical injuries for a woman found shot multiple times outside a business in the city Wednesday night.

The shots fired incident set-off a high-speed pursuit that ended in the arrest of at least one person.

According to police, gunfire rang out at the corner of Magnolia and 3rd 3rd Street at approximately 9:10 p.m., sending police to the scene to investigate.

Upon arrival, police found a 33-year-old woman severely injured after suspects pulled up in a vehicle and began to fire in her direction.

Police say the victim was transported to University Hospital in Newark for treatment and remains critically wounded.

According to police, while officers canvassed the area for the suspects, they spotted a vehicle fitting the description reported by witnesses.

Police attempted to pull the car over and the driver refused which resulted in a high-speed pursuit into Newark then onto the Pulaski Skyway.

Elizabeth Police were assisted by NPD1 helicopter and Jersey City police, who followed the suspects who bailed from the car in the vicinity of 78 Fleet Street.

Police say the suspect was captured on St. Pauls Avenue, but two others ran from the area.

Elizabeth Police thanked Newark officials for excellent aviation coverage via NPD1 and Jersey City Police for assisting in the incident.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
