Members of the Newark Police Division’s Criminal Intelligence Section and Essex County Prosecutor’s Office apprehended two suspects involved in a shooting.
According to police, on Wednesday, at approximately 1:35 p.m., detectives were on patrol in the area of Isabella Avenue and Plymouth Street when they observed two males openly holding firearms.
Police said one of the males, identified as Mr. Fahkir Johnson, pointed the weapon toward the southbound direction of Columbia Avenue and began firing. In contrast, the other male, identified as a juvenile, remained present with a visible firearm.
According to police, detectives immediately approached the suspects, who became startled and fled on foot. The detectives pursued the suspects along Plymouth Avenue and through Vailsburg Park.
The brief pursuit ended in the apprehension of both suspects and recovery of both firearms without incident or injury. A .40 caliber and .38 caliber handgun were recovered and submitted into evidence.
Both suspects were charged with multiple firearm-related offenses, obstructing the administration of law and resisting arrest due to this incident, according to police.
The charges are merely allegations. Both suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
