Update: Police Make Arrest in Paterson Shooting

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Deputy Paterson Police Chief Heriberto Rodriguez announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department’s Cease Fire Unit, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Juan Sosa, 50, of Paterson, was arrested in relation to today's shooting at 465 Park Avenue.

Sosa is charged with attempted murder, possession of a sawed off shotgun, possession of an assault firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of a defaced firearm.

According to police, officers today responded to a shooting incident at 465 Park Avenue, Paterson. As a result, one of the victims suffered a gunshot wound.

Based on an ongoing investigation, Sosa was identified as a suspect for this incident and was taken into custody without incident.

He is scheduled to appear at Central Judicial Processing on June 3, 2017 at 1:30 p.m.

The State intends to file a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
