UPDATE: Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Strike in Jackson Township

Police in Jackson are investigating a fatal pedestrian strike that occurred on Monday night.

According to police, on April 11, at approximately 9:25 p.m., officers and emergency personnel responded to Jackson Mills Road at the intersection of Harmony Road on the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.   

Police said that responding officers located an 81-year-old male resident of Jackson who had been struck by a black Ford F-150 while crossing the road.  

The vehicle was operated by a 64-year-old male.  The 81-year-old male was pronounced at the scene.  

Initial investigation indicated that the male who was operating a battery-powered 4-wheel mobility scooter was struck by the pick-up truck when he was crossing the intersection of Jackson Mills Road and Harmony Road.  

Impairment was not suspected to be a factor at this time.  

According to the investigation, the area was dimly lit at the time of the crash and the scooter operator was dressed in dark clothing.  

The scooter did have some reflective stickers on it but was not equipped with any functioning lights.
