UPDATE: Police Identify Overnight Paterson Shooting Suspect

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Sultan A. Woodford, 45, of Paterson was arrested in relation to an shooting investigation that took place Sunday evening in the area of Dixon Street.

Police say Mr. Woodford is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree; and Aggravated Assault, Second Degree.

Police say on Sunday, at approximately 10:27 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to a residence in the area of Dixon Street Paterson on a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival officers observed a 40-year-old male Paterson resident who sustained a non-fatal gunshot wound.

The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment and is in critical but stable condition.

Based on the investigation Mr. Woodford was identified as the shooter and was arrested the same evening in a nearby residence.
