UPDATE: Police Arrest Man who Allegedly Exchanged Gunfire with Vicrims in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of Mr. Jalil Peppers, 22, of Newark, in connection with a shooting that was published on our RLS Media platform on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a statement released by police, the incident happened at approximately 1:20 p.m., where police responded to North 9th Street near 6th Avenue West on a Shot Spotter notification.

Police say two males were shot at by the suspect with one of the victims returning gunfire.

According to police, the two male victims fled on North 9th Street while the suspect fled the other way towards North 11th Street.

Police say they located Mr. Peppers, who fit the description of the shooting suspect, in the area of North 11th Street and Park Avenue.

Officers arrested Peppers without incident then located a firearm in the area.

He faces two counts of aggravated assault, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.

Detectives investigating this incident request the public’s help in identifying the victims in this incident, with one also being sought as a suspect.

The first victim and shooting suspect is described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt.

The second victim is described as a heavy-set black male with 'dread locs' wearing a white T-shirt and dark shorts.
