UPDATE: Paterson Man Charged with Attempted Murder in Violent Stabbing Incident

Authorities in Bergen County announced the arrest of Christian A. Velez, 24, of Paterson, on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.AdBergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella stated the arrest is the result of an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office under the direction of Chief Jason Love and the Paramus Police Department under the direction of Chief Robert M. Guidetti.

According to officials, on Thursday, December 28, 2023, the Paramus Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit regarding a stabbing that occurred on Route 4 East in Paramus following what was reportedly a road rage incident.

Responding officers located a 28-year-old male victim with multiple stab wounds to his back, side, and arm, officials said.

Officials say the victim was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he is in stable condition.AdAuthorities say the suspect fled the scene.

As a result of the investigation, officials said, on Thursday, December 28, Christian A. Velez was arrested in Belleville and charged with first-degree attempted murder, third-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Officials stated that Velez was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
