UPDATE: One Dead, One Seriously Injured in Jackson Township Crash

Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a deadly crash that occurred Thursday afternoon in Jackson Township, leaving one person dead and another seriously injured.

The incident took place around 2 p.m. in the 1100 block of Toms River Road.

Police responded to several 911 calls reporting a serious collision with injuries.

A devastating crash in Ocean County has claimed the lives of a Toms River couple following a head-on collision involving a woman from Jackson who had a young child in her vehicle, authorities say.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred when the Jackson woman’s vehicle veered across the center line and struck the couple’s car head-on. 

The crash resulted in catastrophic injuries.

The male driver from Toms River was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency care.

 Despite efforts to save her, she later succumbed to her injuries, officials confirmed.

The woman from Jackson and the 4-year-old girl who was in her car at the time of the crash sustained serious injuries. 
Both were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they continue to receive treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities have not released the identities of those involved, pending notification of next of kin.
