UPDATE: NJ Man Charged with Stabbing His Parents to Death Remains Detained Pending Trial

Authorities in Ocean County announced that on November 27, the Honorable Guy P. Ryan, P.J.Cr.P., ordered that Michael Mulgrew, 34, of Barnegat, shall remain detained in the Ocean County Jail pending trial for his charges.AdOcean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said the charges were of Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the stabbing deaths of his parents, Eugene Mulgrew, 71, and Cheryl Mulgrew, 69, both of Barnegat, on November 2, 2023, in Barnegat.

Officials said Mulgrew has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension on November 2.

The detention hearing was handled by Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Mara Brater, officials say

Officials stated the charges referenced above are merely accusations, and the press and public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
