Update: Newark Woman, Roselle Man in Roselle Murder Suicide Identified

Roselle Newark

Two people were found fatally shot outside a home in Roselle Tuesday afternoon in what has been determined to have been a murder-suicide, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.

The victim and perpetrator have been respectively identified as 22-year-old Anishalee Cortes of Newark and 49-year-old Dominick Richards of Roselle.

Roselle Police Department patrol units responding to the 900 block of Chestnut Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. Tuesday found the bodies of Cortes and Richards.

They were both pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, Roselle Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit determined that Richards approached Cortes in the driveway of his home and fatally shot her before taking his own life.

A handgun was recovered from the scene.

Autopsies for the deceased were scheduled for Wednesday.
