Newark police are looking into the details of a shooting that occurred in the city's North Ward on Saturday evening.
The incident was first signaled by a ShotSpotter activation around 5:48 p.m. in the area of 567 Broadway.
Responding officers discovered several shell casings and property damage at the scene, but initially, police officials said no victims were found.
However, the investigation took a turn when detectives were informed that an individual had entered University Hospital with a gunshot wound.
The victim reported to the police that he sustained his injuries on the 100 block of Market Street. As of now, police have not confirmed if this location is directly connected to the shell casings found on Broadway.
This shooting incident remains under an active investigation as Newark police work to piece together the events and determine if there is a linkage between the two locations.
The community is urged to come forward with any information that might assist in the investigation.
