An early morning attempted burglary to a Newark South Ward business had police take a male suspect into custody and had an officer suffering a minor injury.
According to Newark Police Director Anthony Ambrose, the incident happened in the 30's block of Wainwright where officers were called to the scene for a burglary in progress.
Officers, who were already on routine patrol in the area, arrived to the scene and found the suspect in the act of breaking into an establishment authorities said.
The suspect was swiftly taken into custody.
An officer was transported to the hospital after falling on some debris, causing a hand injury Director Ambrose said.
The officer's injuries were reported to be minor.
The investigation is active and ongoing authorities said.
