UPDATE: Man Wounded in Elizabeth Shooting Across From Public School

Elizabeth Police are investigating what authorities are describing as the city’s fifth shooting incident in the past two weeks after a man was wounded Thursday morning near Bayway Avenue and Maple Avenue.

According to preliminary information, emergency responders were dispatched to the area after reports of a shooting involving a male victim who was found suffering from gunshot wounds to his legs. 

The victim was transported to Trinitas Regional Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.


There were unofficial reports of a second person wounded at the scene. 

 

Police quickly established a crime scene in the Bayway section of the city and launched a search for the suspect. 

Authorities said the gunman fled the area following the shooting and was last reported heading north. A K-9 unit was requested to assist in the investigation.
 

 Police believe that the suspect is a dark-skinned male wearing a white tank top, black pants, white sneakers, and a black hat with white lettering. 

The individual was reportedly last seen in the area of Grier Avenue near Routes 1 and 9 heading toward Linden.

 

The shooting occurred across from a public school, raising additional concerns among residents as gun violence continues to impact the city. 

This latest incident marks the fifth shooting reported in Elizabeth within approximately two weeks.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation, and no arrests have been announced.
